Expo > Cedric GerbehayeAt a time when the Democratic Republic of the Congo is once again faced with another attempt at destabilisation in its eastern regions, Festival des Libertés presents the exhibit Congo in Limbo, the photo essay that Cédric Gerbehaye created from 2007 to 2010, thanks to a true immersion in the culture. The country is observed here from a point of view that reflects its complexity and the interweavings of a little-known conflict. One enters and one stays, following the author’s long investigation, setting aside aesthetic compassion and refusing an easy discourse stigmatising the scars of colonisation. The photographer documents the daily life of a country confronted with its wounds and its resources in a tone that lends a serious note to the entire exhibit and which remains open to a beauty that surges from within.

The work of Cédric Gerbehaye, member of the Vu Agency, is regularly published and exhibited abroad. Since 2010, he has focussed in particular on South Sudan with support from the Magnum Foundation and the Pulitzer Center.
