What with diplomatic relations, geostrategic issues and the urgency of the situation, the Syrian conflict is at the centre of the international agenda in the summer of 2012. The possibility of a military invasion necessarily poses the question of its legitimacy, its strategy and the possible consequences if the situation were to be aggravated. Humanitarian aid involves access negotiations that sometimes radically limit the information that NGOs can transmit beyond the country. Under what conditions and to what effect should intervention take place? Militarily or medically? Are decisions being made based on knowledge on the ground?
With Jamie Shea (Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges - NATO), Pierre Piccinin (a Belgian teacher, back from Syria after having been arrested, imprisoned and expelled) and Christopher Stokes (chief executive of MSF Belgium).
Extension of the debate with the screening of the film Access to danger zone.
