Algérie – Chaâbi
Like the Buena Vista Social Club, El Gusto is a group of great Algerian masters and virtuosos of Chaâbi, Jews and Muslims, once separated by war and now reunited to bring the golden age of the Casbah of Algiers back to center stage. Chaâbi is beautiful music with universal themes; its accents, evocations, variations, climates and harmonies are an enchantment.
El Gusto will open the Festival des Libertés for 2013, on October 17, the dramatic anniversary date of the bloody 1961 repression of the FLN (Algerian National Liberation Front) protest in Paris.
