In October 1914, the battle of the Yser raged between the towns of Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide. The battle slowed down the German advance and marked the beginning of a long period of trench warfare … The singer Arno commemorates the Great War in his own way: his roots can be traced back to that same region, on the other side of the Yser River. However, his love for music goes far and wide. In Arno’s eyes, the First World War is also a part of the real world… Arno is the best possible artist to revive those old songs of war and peace. In an evening of discovery in Brussels, the songs specially re-arranged for this commemorative event will be performed by Arno, along with other compositions to which he alone holds the secret.
