Podcast discussion

15 years of civil war tore Lebanon apart. And the wounds have not healed. On the side of the torturers, Assaad Chaftari, an ex-officer in the Lebanese Forces militia, seeks redemption and tries to justify himself as having simply obeyed orders. On the victims’ side, Maryam Saiidi, mother of a young Communist fighter who has gone missing, tries to find out whether he is in prison or is dead. Is a meeting possible? That’s the challenge set by Eliane Raheb, a brilliant young filmmaker, who has created a powerful film that is both original in its form and profound in the questions it raises.
