An impeccable groove-machine heavily influenced by Afrobeat, World Squad’s name reflects the diverse international origins of its members, who come from the three Belgian regions, Italy, Togo, Greece and now Nigeria, with Oghene Kologbo. Oghene joined the master of Afrobeat Fela Kuti at the age of 13, recording over thirty albums with him as an assistant or “human loop.” This job consisted of memorizing all the melodies that Fela sang to him late at night and then teaching them to the band Africa 70 the next day… In 1978, he left, along with Tony Allen, who will also be back at Festival des Libertés this year.
