A shelter in Lausanne regularly turns dozens of people away for a lack of space. Every night, the same entrance ritual takes place, resulting in confrontations that can sometimes become violent. Those on duty at the shelter have the grim task of “triaging the poor”: women and children come first before the men. Although there are many immigrants, Europeans also flee the crisis.
