Yeltsin and Putin destroyed Chechnya for more than 10 years, punishing its people for having proclaimed independence without granting it. Twenty years after the war, Manon Loizeau revisits those places and paints the gloomy situation of a region subjected to Russian investments and oppressed by injustice and terror. The Russian army gave way to Chechen militia while a young rebel, Ramzan Kadyrov (38 years), under orders from Moscow, reconstructed the country and rewrote the official story.
