Doel, Tihange : Tchernobyl ?

Fr • 120’

Thirty years ago, on April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl reactor exploded, resulting in the greatest nuclear disaster of all time, affecting and traumatising millions of people in one way or another.  But according to certain scientists, a nuclear disaster one hundred times more serious than Chernobyl could take place in Doel, Belgium. Reactors in Doel and Tihange were built at the start of the 1970s with an intended lifespan of thirty years, but their operation has been extended until 2025...The memory of people who lived through Chernobyl is of priceless value for measuring the risk if citizens fail to take political responsibility for the Belgian nuclear question.

The meeting will be punctuated by the reading of excerpts from witness statements, as reconstructed by Svetlana Alexievitch, 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature.
