While governments have left thousands of migrants to drown in the Mediterranean as they tried to flee wars and disastrous economic situations in their countries of origin, ordinary men and women are getting organised: some of them charter boats to rescue castaways, others welcome the migrants on land, and others file criminal complaints against governments for failing to assist persons in danger.
