Our society has completely placed itself under an injunction of mobility: going in all directions, being autonomous, bouncing from one project to the next, constantly adapting ourselves...Everything is pushing us, in the name of freedom, to give up on stability and limits. This drive for mobility is precarious and anxiety-building, and it is on this fertile ground that security-related discourses and policies are born, of which states of emergency are only the final incarnation. It's at the start of this headlong rush towards precariousness and towards the security state that we need to think about the conditions for a return to reason, as it’s the only way to preserve our democracy.
