Politicians who support drug prohibition maintain their stance against the opinions of most experts and numerous international authorities, who highlight the counter-productive effects of such policies and who are increasingly declaring that these policies have officially failed. What are the brakes or obstacles which prevent us from changing this obsolete policy? Public morals? International conventions? A scared electorate? Economic or corporatist stakes? A civil society that isn't making itself heard? Or quite simply conservatism, slowness, inertia and a lack of courage from political leaders?
