The autumnal gathering of human rights defenders, of reflecting agitators, of amateurs of subversion, of the promoters of diversity and of the inventors of the possible, the Festival des Libertés presents a wide range of documentaries, debates, shows, exhibitions and concerts. All forms of expression dealing with their epoch, engaged in a critical reflection, inspired by the promotion of a world that is more just and combined in a pleasant and festive atmosphere that has made the festival’s reputation.
The security-related state of emergency is dominating the news. The Festival des Libertés will respond to it by taking a critical approach and will seek to place it in a more global perspective. The festival will dissect the logic of the emergency, its justifications, effects and shortcomings. It will unveil other emergencies obscured by this obsession with security: social, environmental and humanitarian emergencies. By confronting the emergencies and by exploring the different reactions to them, the Festival des Libertés will question more profoundly the temporality of the world, of the economy, of the development of knowledge and techniques, of the rhythms of life, of political responses and of social transformations.
In the face of the challenges that the future holds, it is urgent to act. However, rushing into something is never a good idea, and hasty responses often prove to be superficial, even counterproductive. It would then be urgent to develop radical and sustainable solutions. Should we then slow down the world, or on the contrary should we outstrip it before it submerges us?
