On the left or the right, populism is currently enjoying increasing success. Undoubtedly, it’s a signal that masses of voters feel left behind, cheated or frustrated by the policies of recent years. Or it is that they’ve become more vulnerable to siren songs and simplistic solutions. Beyond being a symptom, is populism an easy trap of our times, a catch-all term to disqualify any critique of the dominant system or a necessary evil to reach the people once again and defend their interests?
