The presence of post-colonial citizens and their descendants has become a major issue in the face of rising far-right populism in Europe. Xenophobic discourse, denouncing the illegitimacy of non-white presence particularly from Africa is made possible by a denial of history and memory as pertains to Africa’s historic contribution to growth in Europe. This two-part workshop will address this issue from the inside, looking at it from economic, legal, social, psychological and cultural standpoints. The goal is to imagine a Europe that’s more responsible when confronted with its past. The second part of the workshop will examine the effects of European imperialism and the opportunities to think about reparations and about how to develop more inclusive societies
