In the besieged city of Aleppo, a family survives on the armed front against Bashar Al-Assad. The father is a battalion commander in the Free Syrian Army. They could have fled long ago, but the family stays in place as the bombs rain down. One day, Abu Ali, the father, is kidnapped by Daesh, and his wife ultimately chooses exile for herself and her four children. Their year-long journey will bring them as far as Goslar, Germany, where they are now making a new life. From war to refugee status, this deeply moving film follows them for three years.
