Justice : vieille dame ou dernier rempart ?

The judicial branch, with its protocols, its rituals, and its decorum, is considered a reactionary institution that judges and condemns in obedience to a standard that lags behind social change. While the material conditions of existence and the effective exercise of social and democratic rights are in steady decline, has justice become one of the last bastions against oppression, or is it just another form of it?
