Charlotte Schmitz : Take me to Jermany
This project follows the dangerous journey of refugees to Europe. They have become co-authors through the messages they have written. They speak of their vulnerability yet also allow exhibition visitors a chance to identify with their journey. Their personal handwriting on Polaroids humanises what otherwise is nothing more than a simple photograph. Many wrote about their struggles and feelings of solitude and despair.
Charlotte Schmitz studied photojournalism and documentary photography in Hanover. Now based in Berlin, she works for several German and international media sources, and is developing a coherent and original body of work addressing questions that affect her as a modern young woman.
