"Laïla at the bridge", Elizabeth Mirzaei & Gulistan Mirzaei
The jury awarded the Studio l’Equipe Prize to Laïla at the Bridge, which explores the issue of opium abuse in Afghanistan through Laila Haidari's struggle to stop it. Founder of a rehabilitation centre and sister of a recovering drug addict, she fights a battle that often seems pointless, but which provokes admiration. While avoiding making her a saint, it’s a portrayal that addresses and brings life to a little-known subject in a dense and complex manner. The jury deemed Laila at the Bridge to be a hard-hitting film that takes a challenging look at a little-known reality.
