Dante Terrell Smith is hard to miss, with his fascinating career as a rapper, actor and producer. Under the stage name Mos Def, this Brooklyn native was a huge part of the second generation of New York hip hop, alongside UTD, De La Soul and Black Star. His subsequent solo career is no less impressive, with the incredible Black on Both Sides (1999). In 2012, Mos Def became Yasiin Bey, a more mature version of himself that left the familiar streets of his younger years as a hip hop star in order to venture forth into the arts as an engaged intellectual. By hosting this tenor of the American hip hop scene, the Festival des Libertés guarantees a spectacular show brimming with elegant flows, political awareness and endless grooves.
