In the winter of 2008-2009, ‘Operation Cast Lead’ by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip led to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, including many children. During this dramatic event, Ashtar Theatre collected the testimonies of 33 young people aged 10 to 14. They tell us about their daily lives, war, childhood (and the loss of childhood), and suffering. They also show us the hope and strength that poetry can provide. Behind the oppression and anger, the words reveal the will of a nation trying to rebuild itself. Directed in 2010 by Ali Abu Yasin, Les monologues de Gaza has been widely performed around the world. The texts will be performed as a live staged reading between Brussels and Gaza. Suggested by the Sens Interdits Festival in Lyon in October 2022, this format offers an opportunity to discuss the issues related to the circulation of Palestinian works and artists.
