Max Romeo, whose classic hit ‘War Ina Babylon’ is among reggae’s most famous refrains, is a pioneer with an aura matching that of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Jamaica’s first major DJ, U Roy is a benchmark of the rub-a-dub style, a voice forged and honed with the most popular sound systems in 1960s Kingston alongside King Tubby, the inventor of dub.
