The administrative labyrinth faced by those without immigration documents constitutes inhuman and degrading treatment in itself. The hope exhausted over years spent waiting a response taints these individuals who have committed no crime other than being here. The fear of arrest, imprisonment, violence and expulsion loom over their daily lives. Poverty, exploitation in illegal workplaces and human trafficking are their daily lot. And yet it is possible for them to live here with dignity! There are dignified ways for paperless immigrants to exist here and for their citizenship to blossom.
