Apples of the Golan

Jill Beardsworth, Keith Walsh

IE/AT ● 2012 ● 82’

VO/OV st Fr/Nl

Before 1967, the Golan Heights was Syrian territory with 139 villages. Since the Six-Day War, the territory has been occupied by Israel. Some 130,000 Arabs were expelled, with no possibility of return. Shot over a period of five years, this film recounts the daily life of residents in Majda Shams, one of the five remaining Syrian villages. Apples, music, love, betrayal and little hope for this people torn between nation and territory.
