Désobéissance militaire 1914 - 2014

Podcast debate (FR)

The Great War, commemorated with much pomp and circumstance, was also marked by mutinies and desertions. Military disobedience has been present in all ages and in all conflicts. It is about looking at the different contexts, observing what motivates disobedience and what makes it necessary.  What are the conditions? How does one arrive at the conclusion that disobedience is necessary? What are the consequences? And what is its political significance?

With Stefanie Prezioso (research director at the University of Lausanne, author of Obéir pour mieux désobéir? Les volontaires italiens dans la Première Guerre mondiale [Obeying to Disobey? Italian Volunteers during the First World War] (2008)) and Yoav Shemer-Kunz (Israeli citizen, refusenik, member of Combatants for Peace).
In partnership with: Union des Progressistes Juifs de Belgique (Belgian Union of Progressive Jews).
The talk will include combat songs sung by the choir Rue de la Victoire.
