Fiebre del Oro

Andrew Sherburne
USA • 2013 • 84’ • VO/OV st Fr/Nl

For five centuries, gold fever has never ceased to drive colonizers’ ambitions or to devastate the landscapes and the peoples of Central America. While the new conquistadors drive up the price of gold on Wall Street, the small Guatemalan village of San Miguel Ixtahuacan makes its entrance into the global economy by destroying food resources, polluting the water and creating cracks in the homes of Gregoria, Diodora and Crisanta, all of whom are fighting to defend their ancestral lands.

Grand Prix, First Peoples Festival (Montreal), 2013.
Followed by a discussion with Alvaro Sandoval Palencia (representative of the community of La Puya) and Aline Herrera (PBI activist who has just returned from Guatemala).
In partnership with: Peace Brigade International.
