When in 1998, Judge Juan Guzman, who had supported Pinochet’s coup d’état, was appointed to oversee a complaint against the former dictator, no one had very high hopes. But as Juan Guzman gradually discovered the extent of the human rights violations committed at the time by the regime, he realised the need to bring the dictator to book.
