Alex was born a hermaphrodite and is now 15. To escape the rumours and pressure of their environment shortly after his birth, Alex’s parents decided to leave Buenos-Aires to live in an out-of-the-way house in the dunes on the Uruguayan coast. When friends visit them with their 16-year-old son, repressed tensions surge. Puenzo’s debut film shows the fear of the unknown phenomenon of intersexuality and where this can lead to: isolation, exclusion and violence.

Human Rights Film Award from Amnesty International at the Ljubljana International Film Festival.

Introduction of the film by Mayke Vermeren, Programming Director of the Zebracinema and cinema professor.
