Feminism up against the forbidden
Flagey - Studio 1
The debate surrounding secularism and feminism is very often focused on the visibility of Muslim women in the public space. In a context of cultural diversity, the numerous strategies proposed by laywomen as well as feminists to allow the emancipation of all women are increasingly varied and can even seem contradictory. Can prohibition help bring about emancipation? Is there not a single (secular) model of female emancipation? How can we not overshadow the other forms of oppression which women ‘from immigrant backgrounds’ are subjected to?
