Due to the inequalities between the west and east of Turkey, colossal projects such as the Bosphorus Bridge reach fruition, while the inhabitants of the small town of Hakkari, close to the borders with Iran and Iraq, face a daily struggle to cross the River Zap. Infused with the spirit of 68, young militant students and engineers rallied round to build a bridge over this river. The story of the “youth revolution bridge” would become a symbol of the culture and aspirations of the Kurdish people … and consequently a symbol to be destroyed.
