AMARILLO

Mexique

By Gabriel Contreras
Teatro Linea De Sombra
Director: Jorge Arturo Vargas

Spanish with french subtitles

On the Mexico-US border. An immense wall blocks the horizon, known to Mexicans as the “wall of shame”. This monolithic structure illustrates all the ambiguity of the border relations between the two countries. There are always more people who want to get across, the traffickers are ever more greedy and the US police patrols are increasingly violent.

A man has left for the other side; we know nothing about him, except that his destination is Texas. A woman, withdrawn into herself, tries to piece her life back together. In search of an identity, a body and a path to follow, she starts an imaginary dialogue with the empty space. Throughout the play, the characters show many faces, hundreds of thousands of identities, which together form the image of a village in eternal exile which is inexorably being emptied out.

AMARILLO is a piece of theatre that is totally physical and politically engaged, in which the actors offer intense performances.
