Political and artistic, intercultural and creative, festive and subversive, Festival des Libertés returns each autumn to mobilise all forms of expression in order to offer an overview of the state of rights and freedoms around the world, to point out lurking dangers, to bring people together in a fun, relaxing atmosphere, to encourage resistance and to promote solidarity.
Deconstructing myths, making utopias real
Democracy, equality, liberty, progress, development, performance, transparency… myth or reality? Have these principles, proclaimed by all institutions and media outlets, become hollow words? Do they serve simply to legitimise a reality founded on inequality, conditioning and violence?
In 2011, Festival des Libertés invites citizens to raise questions about contemporary myths and to denounce the manipulations and deceptions of a society that tricks us with its principles and sells illusions through advertising. But bewailing and denouncing are no longer enough. It is time to act in order to make liberty, solidarity and equality into living realities. It’s time to move from indignation to insurrection! And in doing this, to replace confounding myths with inspiring utopias. Utopias that will help us reconquer our imaginations and our hopes. Utopias to experiment, here and now, with new practices, new expressions and new relations.
