Otherness, plurality and community?
Roberto Esposito
Philosophical conference (Simultaneous interpreter for it/fr/nl)
The philosopher will expose the concepts that defined his course: the apolitical (indicating the plurality that politics conceived as representation can only deny or reduce) to the biopolitical (policy regarding life), by passing by immunity (politics of fear) that is substituted for community which he defines etymologically as opening to otherness and impossible identity in oneself. In other words, to the antipode of the old Communisms and of the new communautarisms or individualisms.
Roberto Esposito teaches theoretical philosophy at the Italian Institute of Human Sciences in Naples. He has published numerous works in the éditions Einaudi including Communitas. Origine et destine de la communauté (Origin and Destiny of the Community)(1988 ; P.U.F., 2000) ; Terza persona. Politica della vita e filosofia dell’impersonale(Third Person. Politics of life and Impersonal Philosophy) (2007). The conference will be followed up by Ignaas Devisch, professor of philosophy at Gand and Nijmegen Universities, author of books on J.L. Nancy and the question of community.
