Colonie, regards croisés sur le Congo.

Benoît Feyt

On June 30, 1960, after 80 years of Belgian colonization, the Congo obtained its independence. Fifty years later, can we remember anything from the colonial period? Scattered memories, clear-cut opinions, and above all... a large gap in Belgian and Congolese school curriculums. Hoping to fill in the blanks, journalist Benoît Feyt spent several months interviewing historians, journalists or simple witnesses to the colonization. A series of interviews in Brussels, Paris, Lumumbashi and Kinshasa, combined with archival images and colonial films give substance to Colony. As the Congolese state greatly celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it is time to question the relationship between Belgium and the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo through the perspectives of both the Belgians and the Congolese. Without vanity or self-flagellation, this work of remembrance casts a light on a period of history poorly taught until now.
A 50-minute documentary, directed by Benoît Feyt. With the support of Fund for Journalism in the French Community, the Royal Museum of Central Africa, Wallonie Bruxelles International and LHAC (Laicity and Humanism in Central Africa).

The projection will be followed by a discussion with Benoît Feyt, filmmaker and journalist for Télé Bruxelles, and Fredy Jacquet, president of LHAC (Laicity and Humanism in Central Africa).

In partnership with CRIPEL.
