By and with Koenraad Tinel
Production: HetPaleis-Antwerpen
Everything Dad said seemed right. Even after the war, he couldn’t believe he’d been wrong. It was only much later that I started to ask why. My own father...
Koenraad Tinel was barely six years old when he became involved in the war. His parents were sympathetic to the German occupiers. Years later, he came to realize the decisive influence that his father’s choices had had on his subsequent life. The memory of this intense episode from his childhood long remained hidden in the far reaches of his memory. Until he began to put down on paper, with black ink and a fountain pen, the 240 scenes of this story. At the request of hetpaleis, this 77-year-old painter narrates in public, with a certain child-like naivety, this impressive and very human document.
SCHEISSEIMER makes no judgments. The story raises questions about the undeniable example the parents set and the consequences that can result over the long term.
After enjoying great success in Flanders where the show was presented several times at hetpaleis, Koenraad Tinel will now tell his story for the first time in French at Festival des Libertés.
