"Just war", "humanitarian interventionism", "post-colonialist ideology".... Is humanitarian action just another way of imposing Western models on poorer countries as the only possible route to fulfilment?
To fuel the debate, Mr. Stokes will discuss the risks that neutral, independent organisations run when they associate themselves with political, military or economic agendas. What are the consequences for the beneficiaries of humanitarian action and for the actors? Using his vast experience in this field, Mr. Brauman will address some possible actions that are more respectful of the autonomy and dignity of local peoples.
With Rony Brauman (former president of MSF France and author of Humanitaire, diplomatie et droits de l'homme, 2009) and Christopher Stokes (managing director of the Belgian section of Doctors Without Borders).
In partnership with MSF Belgium and CNCD-11.11.11.
