Théatre National > Foyer
In parallel with the technological advances of our century, we are living in a society where control over individuals is increasingly insidious and oppressive, both from governments and from private corporations (surveillance cameras, gathering of private information, listings, microchips, etc.). How can we extract ourselves from this control that is so cruelly reminiscent of George Orwell’s novel? How can we escape this voluntary surveillance? There are simple, practical techniques that the participants will discuss.
With Didier Bigo (prof at Science Po Paris and King's College London, director of International Political Sociology and Cultures & Conflits), Thierry Rousselin (PhD in geology, co-author of Sous surveillance! Démêler le mythe de la réalité), Paul de Hert (professor of European penal law at Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and Raphaël Gellert (attorney, VUB researcher, author of a thesis on privacy law and new technologies).
Partnership: Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS), "Sapient" project.
