After being chased out of ex-Yugoslavia, the Roms live as a recluse society on campgrounds and in wastelands south of Rome, rejected by Italian society and monitored 24 hours a day. When an Italian woman is murdered and a child is kidnapped, the government, the media and the general population erupt in a violent xenophobic reaction.
