In India, there is a tradition that calls for a woman to abandon her property, land and family upon the death of her husband. Thus, nearly 20 million widows have no other prospect than to die alone, disowned by their loved ones. Some women have taken action to change mentalities and modernise the social and cultural issues at the heart of this discrimination.
